what we do
OceanGirl Design specializes in public engagement / outreach for complex infrastructure and public works projects requiring extensive and innovative outreach techniques. We are skilled across all phases of these projects—from the design phase all the way through construction.
Clear, informative, and consistent communication is key. We are immediate communicators, answering stakeholder and public concerns within minutes, not days. We treat all concerns and questions as if they were our own, thereby building trust with the stakeholders and communities. Community values are extremely relevant in our work.
A key component of our process is being adaptable to the ever-changing conditions of multi-faceted projects, and the resulting needs of the stakeholders involved. All stakeholders—large and small—are valued in our outreach process. We specialize in building strong working relationships and providing them with engaging communications. All the affected parties on a project know we are there to help and that we are extremely responsive to their concerns.
We are a “boots-on-the-ground firm.” We are on the jobsite often. We get to know the construction crews. The more educated we are about the daily and weekly status of the project, the more effective we are in working with the public and the stakeholders.
Our extensive graphic design backgrounds enable us to create unique visual communications that go hand in hand with our outreach on all projects, and this has set us apart from our competitors. We create user-friendly custom mapping, project branding, public meeting presentations and website graphics in addition to all printed and web collateral that might be necessary on a project—unifying projects behind one consistent graphic message. These graphics make it easier for stakeholders and the public at large to identify and interact with the project throughout the duration. In addition to project photography, we can also employ time-lapse video, following the path of a particular phase of a project, giving the public existing visual landmarks of the construction process. We also employ cutting-edge technology to allow the public to get in touch with us in many different ways — from our nimble VOIP phone / hotline system to text messaging campaigns.
